Janet Lee Taylor, 81, of Hollywood, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home on July 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 5, 1945, in Washington, Pennsylvania, Janet was the beloved daughter of the late Roy Glenn Calvert and Nellie Irene Davis Calvert.

Education and Career
After graduating from Lackey High School in 1963, Janet attended cosmetology school and went on to build a successful career in both business and cosmetology. Her dedication and entrepreneurial spirit led her to co-own Village Hair Repair, a thriving hair salon in Leonardtown, for 20 years.

After closing the salon, Janet returned to college to pursue a new career path. She later worked for several years as an administrative assistant with government contractors ManTech and Eagle Systems.

Marriage and Family Life
In 1996, Janet married the love of her life, Lawrence Emerson Taylor, in Leonardtown, Maryland. Together, they shared a life filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories until his passing.

Faith and Community Service
A woman of strong faith, Janet was a member of Potomac Heights Baptist Church in Indian Head, Maryland. She was deeply committed to the organizations and communities she loved.

Janet was a Past Honored Queen of Job’s Daughters International and an active member of Bethel No. 24 in Indian Head. She also faithfully served as Bethel Guardian of Bethel No. 42 in Hollywood, Maryland, where she mentored and inspired many young women. Her dedication to service extended to the Boat Racing Association, where she served as secretary for seven years, and she was also a proud past member of the Bucksnorts.

A Life of Adventure
Janet embraced life with enthusiasm and a true sense of adventure. She enjoyed riding in the sidecar of Larry’s motorcycle, boat racing, skiing, and traveling. Some of her favorite destinations included Florida, Arizona, and New England, several wonderful trips to Hawaii to visit her daughter and she especially enjoyed cruising with her family to the Bahamas and Alaska.

Retirement Years
Janet spent the past 10 years of her retirement at Cedar Lane Senior Living Community. She formed many friendships, loved participating in activities, and was affectionately known as “Ms. Congeniality.”

Family and Legacy
Above all, Janet treasured her family. She was a loving mother, MeeMee, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness, generosity, and unwavering love enriched the lives of everyone who knew her. Her warm smile, gentle spirit, and caring heart will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Janet is survived by her daughters, Candy Wood Cain (Bill) of Hollywood, Maryland, and Kristen Wood Roy (Alex) of Hilo, Hawaii; her grandsons, Jeffrey David Cain II of Great Mills, Maryland, and Brenden William Cain of Hollywood, Maryland; her siblings, Carole Calvert Bicknell of North Carolina, Thomas Calvert (Mary Rose) of La Plata, Maryland, and Deborah Calvert Posey (Gary) of La Plata, Maryland; and dozens of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence Emerson Taylor.

Services and Memorial Contributions
Janet chose not to have funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cedar Lane Senior Living Community, Hospice of St. Mary’s, or any St. Mary’s EMS organization.
