UPDATE 12/22/2023: State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling announced today that Dimitri Paul Brooks, 28, of Lexington Park, Maryland, was sentenced to 40 years in prison with 15 years of active incarceration for felony drug and firearms offenses.
A St. Mary’s County jury convicted Brooks in September of 2023 following a two-day jury trial of possession with intent to distribute narcotics, possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, controlled dangerous substance possession – not marijuana, illegal possession of ammunition, and firearm possession after conviction for a crime of violence.
“Getting drugs off the streets and firearms out of the hands of criminals is paramount to keeping our county safe,” said Sterling. “The defendant was prohibited from possessing firearms because of prior convictions, and yet continued to do so while trafficking narcotics. This sentence means that the defendant will no longer be able to compromise the safety of our community.”
The charges stemmed from an investigation conducted by the St. Mary’s County Vice/Narcotics Unit. Sergeant Kevin Meyer of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office was the lead investigator.
Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Lisa Ridge, Chief of the Narcotics Unit, prosecuted the case on behalf of the citizens of St. Mary’s County.
The Honorable Joseph M. Stanalonis presided over the case.
UPDATE 9/25/2023: Jaymi Sterling, State’s Attorney for St. Mary’s County, announced today that Dimitri Paul Brooks, 28, of Lexington Park, Maryland, was convicted by a St. Mary’s County jury on felony drug and firearm charges.
Following a two-day jury trial, Mr. Brooks was found guilty of all charges, including:
- Controlled Dangerous Substance Possession with Intent to Distribute: Narcotic
- Firearm/Drug Trafficking Crime
- Controlled Dangerous Substance – Not Cannabis
- Illegal Possession of Ammunition
- Regulated Firearm Possession with Crime of Violence Conviction
Pending a sentencing hearing, Mr. Brooks will remain incarcerated where he faces a maximum sentence of 57 years in prison.

2/02/2023: On Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit, with the assistance of the Patrol Division, Emergency Services Team and K-9 Unit, executed search and seizure warrants at the 46000 block of Sue Drive in Lexington Park, as part of an ongoing narcotics distribution investigation.
The residence has been identified as being occupied and used as a CDS distribution location by Dimitri Paul Brooks, age 27 of Lexington Park.
A search of Brooks’ residence located a significant quantity of crack cocaine, a quantity of Fentanyl, a loaded Ruger Security 9-mm handgun, US currency, a digital scale and various packing/production materials. Brooks is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to previous criminal convictions.
Brooks was located in the area and taken into custody without incident. Brooks was served with multiple outstanding arrest warrants for failure to appear on CDS Possession and Violation of a Protective Order and also charged with: CDS Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotics; Possession of a Firearm with Nexus to Drug Trafficking Crime; CDS Possession: Not Cannabis; Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm and Illegal Possession of Ammo.
Brooks was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown, where he was released by a court commissioner on an unsecured personal bond of $10,000.00 the same day of his arrest.
Brooks has previous arrests for robbery, assault 1st degree, along with multiple felony convictions.
