Sabrina Brianna Thompson, 26, of Leonardtown, is facing multiple charges of second-degree assault on correctional officers following two separate incidents at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, according to court documents.

Court records show that Thompson, whose date of birth is listed as December 30, 1998, was charged in two cases stemming from incidents on February 26, 2025, and March 5, 2025. In both cases, she is charged with second-degree assault on a Department of Corrections employee.

According to charging documents filed by deputies with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, the February incident occurred inside the detention center on Baldridge Street in Leonardtown. A correctional supervisor reported that “one of his correctional officers… was assaulted by defendant/incarcerated individual, Sabrina Brianna Thompson.” The report states that video footage showed Thompson “grabbed peas off her food tray and threw the peas at correctional officer,” striking the officer. The adult female victim told deputies “she went to pick up the defendant’s food tray after the defendant asked her to,” and when she opened the food slot, “the defendant then grabbed the peas and threw them at her and hit her.” The report further notes the food struck the victim’s “right arm and torso (did not observe any injuries).”

In that case, deputies also stated that Thompson was advised of her rights but “refused to speak with us.”

A second incident occurred on March 5, 2025, also inside the detention center on Baldridge Street. According to court documents, a correctional officer reported that at approximately 10:00 a.m. she was assisting medical staff with obtaining vital signs from Thompson. The adult female victim stated she asked Thompson to place her arm outside the cell door, and “the defendant complied and placed her hand outside the door.” While holding Thompson’s arm, the victim reported that Thompson “started making noises with her mouth that sounded like she was going to spit.”

The victim stated she raised her hand “to shield herself in case the defendant was going to spit,” and then “the defendant then spit on the victim and it struck her lip.” The victim was transported to a hospital “for precautionary medical reason.”

Deputies reviewed surveillance footage from the detention center and reported that “it was as the victim described,” noting they “observed the defendant spit at the victim” before she was secured back in her cell.

In both cases, deputies requested charges of second-degree assault on a correctional employee. Each charge carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison and/or a $2,500 fine if convicted, according to the charging documents.

All incidents were reported to have occurred within the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, and both cases remain pending in the District Court for St. Mary’s County.
