Bay District Volunteer Fire Department Welcomes Their New Truck After 3 Year Wait

April 16, 2026

In November of 2022, the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department signed their contract for the order of a new Pierce Tractor Drawn Aerial.

Pierce began production in November of 2025. This new Pierce 107’ aerial will be assigned as Truck 3 out of the Lexington Park Station 3.

Bay District Volunteer Fire Department received the brand new 2026 Pierce Arrow XT Ascendant tractor drawn aerial on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026.

The apparatus features a 67-inch cab and chassis with a flat roof and seating for seven in the cab, and one in the tiller cab. It has an overall length of 59 feet, 2 inches and an overall height of 11 feet, 2 inches, along with a 153-inch tractor wheelbase.

Power will come from a Cummins X15 engine rated at 605 horsepower, paired with an Allison EVS 4000 transmission.

Members spent countless hours and years planning, meeting, voting and making decisions on every inch of this Truck to make this apparatus the best they could to serve our community for many years to come.

On January 24, 2022, Baltimore City Fire Department lost Lieutenants Paul Butrim and Kelsey Sadler, and Fire Fighter/Paramedic Kenneth Lacayo to a row-home fire on Stricker Street.

Firefighters from across the East Coast, including crews from Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties, responded to Baltimore to cover every fire and EMS station in the city. It was the first time in the Baltimore City Fire Department’s 225-year history that the entire department went out of service.

These units included Bay District Volunteer Fire Department Truck 3.

In March of 2023, Baltimore City bought Truck 3 from Bay District and promptly placed the apparatus in service within a month of the purchase.

Just 3 months after the purchase, Tuesday, June 27, 2023, our community faced our own tragic loss of Firefighter Brice Trossbach.

Within the hours of others waking to the news, Firefighters and EMS from Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., Delaware, and many others responded to assist and be there for our community.

Without hesitation, Baltimore City Fire Department responded with Truck 3 to assist, and provide the same coverage the brotherhood and sisterhood had provided a short time beforehand.

Brice loved his tiller-truck and Baltimore City Fire Department made sure he had it at his final resting place. The new Truck 3 has many dedications to Brice and the impact he made on all of us.

We had the honor of photographing this gorgeous apparatus as she was welcomed to her forever home. We look forward to seeing it serve with pride and joy for our community and citizens.
